Utilize demographic dividend to realize Golden Indonesia 2045 vision: Jokowi
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) sought the support of teachers in the country to utilize the demographic dividend to realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
According to Jokowi, the potential demographic dividend that will occur between 2030 and 2035, when Indonesia’s population would be dominated by young people, must be utilized to support the country to become developed and modern during its 100-year independence anniversary in 2045.
“Development of human resources’ quality is key, and it is the responsibility of you all as teachers,” he remarked at the 78th Anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) and the 2023 National Teachers’ Day commemoration event in Jakarta on Saturday.
President Jokowi underlined that the demographic dividend opportunity must be utilized to produce Indonesian generations that are excellent, tough, physically and mentally healthy, and skilled.
In this case, he believes that the role of excellent teachers is essential, as teachers are guides, motivators, mentors, as well as friends and role models for students.
“In Javanese, there is a term: guru iku digugu lan ditiru, which means teachers are trusted and serve as role models,” he pointed out.
The president expressed hope that all parties in the education sector would continue to strive for education that is inclusive, comfortable, and fun for the nation’s children.
He further noted that schools must be places for learning to develop children’s talents and potential, so that they become physically, emotionally, and spiritually strong as well as intelligent and skilled.
At Saturday’s event, President Jokowi was accompanied by several officials, comprising Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Makarrim and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy.
