Uzbekistan and ACWA Power Deepen Strategic Green Energy Cooperation at Samarkand Climate Forum

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: On the sidelines of the Samarkand Climate Forum, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Mohammad Abunayyan, Co-Chairman of the Uzbekistan–Saudi Arabia Business Council and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power, to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of green energy and infrastructure development.

President Mirziyoyev expressed satisfaction with the strong momentum in strategic partnership with ACWA Power, highlighting the company’s key role as a major investor in Uzbekistan’s renewable energy sector. The current portfolio of collaborative projects between Uzbekistan and ACWA Power has now reached a total investment of $15 billion.

Among the landmark achievements noted during the meeting were the commissioning of two 500-megawatt wind power plants in the Bukhara region in December 2024, and the launch of two 1-gigawatt solar power stations in the Samarkand region, complemented by energy storage systems in the Tashkent region.

The discussion emphasized the importance of accelerating project implementation in areas such as green energy, infrastructure development, pharmaceuticals, as well as the modernization of heating, water supply, and public utility systems.

President Mirziyoyev and Mr. Abunayyan also stressed the strategic importance of the upcoming session of the Intergovernmental Commission and Business Forum, which is scheduled to be held later this year in Samarkand, calling for comprehensive preparation to further boost bilateral economic engagement.

Following the meeting, President Mirziyoyev concluded his participation in the Samarkand Summit and Climate Forum and departed for Tashkent.
