Uzbekistan and World Bank Deepen Cooperation on Economic Reforms and Sustainable Development

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, held a meeting in Tashkent with a delegation from the World Bank led by Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde. The meeting underscored the growing partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, with a shared focus on sustainable development, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.
During the discussions, the two sides exchanged views on current trends in the global economy, the sustainability of Uzbekistan’s economic growth, and key influencing factors. These included the effective application of artificial intelligence, the creation of high-quality employment opportunities, the attraction of advanced technologies, and the pivotal role of the World Trade Organization in shaping international trade dynamics.
Special attention was given to the creation of new jobs across priority sectors such as healthcare, tourism, agriculture, and industry. The dialogue also addressed the wide-ranging socio-economic reforms underway in Uzbekistan, including measures to ensure macroeconomic stability, enhance the efficiency of fiscal policy, and meet national inflation targets.
Further topics of discussion included infrastructure development through public-private partnerships, the transformation and privatization of state-owned enterprises, and the adoption of measures to improve energy efficiency. The parties also explored initiatives aimed at building a green and sustainable heating system and strengthening the country’s transport and logistics networks.
Representatives of the World Bank commended Uzbekistan’s progress in implementing reforms and its commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability and growth. They acknowledged the effectiveness of the policies being pursued and expressed readiness to further support the country’s development agenda.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to intensify the exchange of ideas and expertise in the discussed areas. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continued systematic and results-oriented cooperation in pursuit of common development goals.
