Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister of Vietnam Phạm Minh Chính reiterated the country’s steadfast support for ASEAN’s collective efforts and solidarity during a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday afternoon.

Prime Minister Chính emphasized Vietnam’s readiness to work closely with the ASEAN Chair in addressing regional challenges and maintaining unity within the bloc. He noted that Vietnam remains committed to contributing actively to ASEAN-led initiatives, particularly in the context of rising regional tensions.

For his part, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirmed Malaysia’s commitment, as the current ASEAN Chair, to fostering dialogue, promoting unity, and facilitating the peaceful resolution of disputes, including the recent tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

He underscored the importance of exercising restraint, avoiding the use of force, and adhering to fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

Prime Minister Chính commended the close and consistent communication between Việt Nam and Malaysia, reflecting the deepening political trust and strong bilateral relations under the framework of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also lauded Malaysia’s recent diplomatic efforts in promoting peace, notably the July 28 meeting between the Cambodian Prime Minister and the Acting Thai Prime Minister, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement.

Describing the ceasefire as a constructive and encouraging step, Prime Minister Chính expressed Vietnam’s willingness to send representatives to ASEAN-led mechanisms to monitor its implementation, as proposed by Malaysia. He further affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to support humanitarian aid for affected populations in both Cambodia and Thailand.

On bilateral cooperation, the two leaders agreed to maintain regular high-level exchanges and further strengthen mutual political trust. They pledged to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on innovation, science and technology, energy, and regional electricity connectivity — particularly through collaboration with Singapore to build an integrated ASEAN power grid.

Both sides also expressed eagerness to finalize a rice trade agreement that would enable Việt Nam to contribute to Malaysia’s food security, further enhancing cooperation in essential sectors.

In addition, the leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest, including trade policies and global tariff issues. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to safeguarding peace, stability, and prosperity in their respective countries, the region, and the wider international community.
