Vietnamese Party Leader Hosts Cuban Top Legislator in Hanoi

Hanoi

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm on Wednesday received Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and President of the Council of State of Cuba, who is on an official visit to Việtnam.

Welcoming the Cuban leader’s trip, which coincides with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Việtnam and Cuba (December 2, 1960–2025) and the “Việtnam–Cuba Friendship Year,” Tô Lâm underscored that the visit demonstrates the special attention of the Cuban Party, State, National Assembly, and people to the traditional solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

The Vietnamese Party chief reaffirmed that Việtnam will remain steadfast in standing shoulder to shoulder with Cuba to further strengthen their exemplary, loyal, and enduring brotherhood. He expressed profound gratitude for Cuba’s unwavering support during Việtnam’s struggle for national liberation and post-war reconstruction, stressing that the ties between the two Parties provide the political foundation and strategic direction for bilateral cooperation across all fields.

Tô Lâm called on the Cuban legislature to continue prioritising support for economic, trade, and investment collaboration, particularly in agriculture, renewable energy, and biotechnology–pharmaceuticals, to meet the development needs of both sides. He also proposed strengthening exchanges of theoretical and practical experience.

For his part, Esteban Lazo praised Việtnam’s great achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Việtnam (CPV), voicing confidence that the CPV will continue to guide the nation towards prosperity, democracy, equity, and civilisation. He noted that Cuba attaches great importance to learning from Việtnam’s reform and socialist-building experience, especially in preparation for the 9th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba in 2026.

The Cuban leader also briefed his host on the outcomes of his talks and the second session of the Việtnam–Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, which he co-chaired with Việtnam’s top legislator. He expressed gratitude for Việt Nam’s consistent support, most recently shown through a nationwide fundraising campaign to assist Cuba during its current hardships.

Esteban Lazo further highlighted Việtnam’s cooperation in enhancing Cuba’s agricultural production, ensuring food security, implementing renewable energy projects, producing consumer goods, and developing joint ventures in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, including investment projects in the Mariel Special Economic Zone and other localities.
