Wang Yi Discusses Middle East Tensions with Jordan's Ayman Safadi

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in phone talks on Tuesday with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, at Safadi’s request. The discussions focused on the escalating situation in the Middle East.

Safadi highlighted the significant increase in regional tensions following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, describing the situation as extremely dangerous. He emphasized that the escalation of the conflict benefits no party and results in widespread losses. Safadi called for immediate international action to prevent further conflict escalation, uphold international law, achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and ultimately realize Palestinian independence through a two-state solution.

Safadi acknowledged China’s objective and fair stance on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, expressing Jordan’s willingness to maintain communication with China. He conveyed Jordan’s expectations for China to play a more significant role in promoting a ceasefire and halting the ongoing conflict.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed China’s firm opposition and strong condemnation of the assassination, stating it violated basic international norms, infringed on Iran’s sovereignty, undermined Gaza ceasefire negotiations, and escalated regional tensions.

Wang emphasized that achieving a full and permanent ceasefire in Gaza is crucial to preventing further deterioration of the situation. He called for a unified international response and collective effort to address the issue.

Praising Jordan’s significant role in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and fostering Middle East peace, Wang reiterated China’s readiness to maintain communication and coordination with Jordan. He stressed the importance of urging all relevant parties to prioritize overall peace, avoid actions that escalate tensions, and resume ceasefire negotiations promptly.

China remains committed to standing with Arab countries, supporting all initiatives conducive to a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, preventing further conflict escalation, and promoting stability in the Middle East, Wang added.
