2024 China Science Fiction Convention Unveiled in Beijing
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The eighth 2024 China Science Fiction Convention commenced with the groundbreaking interactive short science fiction film, “Dream of the Future,” captivating audiences with its integration of sound and light technology. The event unfolded on Saturday at the No. 1 Blast Furnace SoReal Science Fiction Park, located within the innovative confines of Shougang Park, Beijing.
Transforming the derelict furnace into a futuristic “space starship,” the convention venue showcased pioneering advancements such as Extended Reality (XR), space computing, and digital twin technology. Attendees were immersed in a sensory journey facilitated by cutting-edge technologies, including holographic imaging, artificial intelligence, and motion capture, creating an unforgettable science fiction experience.
In recent years, Beijing has emerged as a hub for the science fiction industry, fostering a comprehensive ecosystem that spans from production to innovation. Shijingshan Shougang Park has transitioned into China’s foremost science fiction industry cluster, attracting over 200 companies nationwide.
Beijing has significantly contributed to the growth of the science fiction sector, with approximately 50 percent of the country’s science fiction film and television productions and 40 percent of science fiction literature originating from the capital. Recognizing the industry’s potential as a catalyst for “new quality productive forces,” Beijing has intensified efforts to bolster technological infrastructure, such as the Zhongguancun Science Fiction Industry Innovation Center, leveraging advancements like artificial intelligence large language models to drive industry evolution.
Furthermore, Beijing is fostering a conducive environment for creative endeavors by establishing science fiction master studios and extending support for the expansion of Shougang Park as a premier science fiction hub. To further propel industry development, Beijing has outlined comprehensive action plans to attract leading enterprises and pivotal projects.
Running until April 29 alongside the annual Zhongguancun Forum, the China Science Fiction Convention, themed “Scientific Dreams, Creating the Future,” encompasses eighteen activities spanning four sections. From the opening ceremony to forum meetings, industry promotion activities, and a science fiction film week, the convention aims to fortify the Beijing International Science and Fiction Center while nurturing the high-quality development of China’s science fiction industry.
