Turkish Foreign Minister to Participate in Gaza Ceasefire Talks in Saudi Arabia
Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is poised to embark on diplomatic discussions in Saudi Arabia aimed at advancing efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, as tensions persist in the region.
Fidan’s visit to Riyadh will include pivotal meetings with the Gaza Contact Group, a coalition formed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League. Scheduled to take place on April 28-29, these discussions will also involve foreign ministers from several Western nations, as confirmed by diplomatic sources.
The primary focus of the talks will be the urgent need to broker a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, where escalating violence has led to humanitarian crises and civilian casualties. Additionally, discussions will address strategies for facilitating the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Gazan population.
Established during a joint summit of the OIC and the Arab League in Saudi Arabia last November, the Gaza Contact Group is dedicated to halting the conflict in Gaza and fostering conditions conducive to lasting peace in the region.
Despite the United Nations Security Council’s approval of a resolution on March 25, which called for an immediate ceasefire, implementation has yet to materialize due to ongoing challenges, including resistance from Israel.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s engagement underscores Turkiye’s steadfast commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region through diplomatic dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
