Vietnam's Top Leader Presides Over National Day Celebration in Hanoi

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm, alongside his spouse, chaired a prestigious ceremony in Hanoi on Thursday evening to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

The event drew the attendance of both former and current leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, and Government, as well as officials from ministries, agencies, socio-political organizations, and localities in and around Hanoi. International delegates included the head of the diplomatic corps in Hanoi, Palestinian Ambassador Saadi Salama, alongside foreign ambassadors, chargés d’affaires, and chief representatives of international organizations based in the capital.

In his keynote address, President Tô Lâm revisited the historic moment of September 2, 1945, when President Hồ Chí Minh proclaimed the Declaration of Independence at Ba Đình Square, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He highlighted the enduring impact of President Hồ Chí Minh’s call for independence, which has inspired the entire Vietnamese nation to unite under the leadership of the Party, achieving monumental victories in the liberation, reunification, and renewal of the country.

Reflecting on Vietnam’s transformative journey over the past 79 years, the President underscored the nation’s rise from the ravages of war to become a favored destination for investors and international travelers. Once an underdeveloped economy, Vietnam has emerged as one of the top 40 global economies, with its trade volume ranking among the top 20 countries worldwide.

He further emphasized Vietnam’s strategic engagement in global economic frameworks, highlighting the country’s active participation in 16 free trade agreements (FTAs) that connect with 60 major economies regionally and globally. Vietnam, which once stood isolated, now maintains diplomatic relations with 193 countries, has forged strategic and comprehensive partnerships with 30 nations, including all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and plays a proactive role in over 70 global and regional organizations.

President Tô Lâm reaffirmed that the well-being and happiness of the Vietnamese people remain the ultimate goal of the nation’s endeavors. He acknowledged the recognition bestowed upon Vietnam by the United Nations and the international community as a success story in poverty reduction and as a beacon of hope for many nations.

He attributed these significant achievements to the patriotic spirit, national unity, self-reliance, and the enduring desire for independence, freedom, and happiness of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people. The President also praised the Communist Party of Vietnam for its steadfast and people-centered leadership. Looking to the future, he outlined the Party’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the country’s development, with ambitious goals set for 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party, and 2045, the centenary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, aiming to transform Vietnam into a prosperous, high-income nation where all citizens enjoy a high-quality life.

The President expressed the Vietnamese Party, State, and people’s aspiration for continued support and close cooperation with international friends, partners, and peace lovers. He acknowledged the critical role of diplomats, international organization heads, and foreign investors in fostering these relationships and building a peaceful and sustainable world order.

“I firmly believe that together, we will overcome all challenges, seize opportunities, and work toward building a peaceful and sustainable world, shaping a fair international political and economic order based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law,” President Tô Lâm stated.

Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic community in Hanoi, Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam Saadi Salama congratulated Vietnam on the occasion. He highlighted the significance of the moment at Ba Đình Square 79 years ago, which continues to inspire nations striving for national liberation and justice worldwide. He praised Vietnam’s “bamboo diplomacy,” symbolizing flexibility, resilience, and consistency in navigating the complexities of the modern world. Ambassador Salama also commended Vietnam’s commitment to addressing global issues based on the principles of the rule of law, humanity, equality, and mutual respect, noting that this approach has amplified the nation’s voice in global and regional forums.

Expressing gratitude for the support from the Vietnamese State and relevant agencies, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Salama reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between Vietnam, other countries, and international organizations. He emphasized the importance of fostering peaceful and mutually beneficial partnerships to promote a world of peace, freedom, equality, prosperity, and sustainable development.

The ceremony concluded with a special music show, featuring performances of renowned musical pieces and songs by Vietnamese and international composers. These performances paid tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh, the Vietnamese revolution, and the rich cultural heritage of the Vietnamese people.
