Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: On 6th November 2024, as part of a joint fellowship program, Dr. Hina Shahid, Head of the Department of Media Studies at Foundation University Islamabad, led an engaging and interactive training session focused on how fake news spreads through social media, its effects on society, and how to distinguish between fake and authentic information.

During the session, Dr. Hina shared valuable insights on the implications of misinformation. Ms. Isha Fatima warmly welcomed Dr. Hina Shahid, while Dr. Kalsoom Hanif, Coordinator for the Student Fellowship Initiative, expressed immense gratitude for her expertise and the valuable information shared. Dr. Hina provided practical examples and case studies that illustrated the real-world consequences of fake news, encouraging participants to think critically about their online consumption. She underscored the role of social media platforms in propagating misinformation and urged students to become proactive in verifying information before sharing it. The session not only equipped students with essential tools for navigating the complex media landscape but also inspired them to become responsible digital citizens.

The training session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment, during which students actively participated, shared their viewpoints, and posed questions to Dr. Hina. Ms. Isha expressed appreciation to Dr. Hina Shahid for her valuable time and the insightful session.

Currently, about 30 Master’s and Bachelor’s level students are participating in this fellowship program.
