Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Film “Magtymguly Pyragy” Wins Best Feature Film
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The joint Turkmen-Uzbek film “Magtymguly Pyragy” was awarded the top honor at the IV International Film Festival Gorkut Ata, recognized as the Best Feature Film. The prestigious Crane statuette was presented to Muzaffarhon Erkinov from Uzbekistan, who directed the film, and Turkmenistan’s People’s Artist Chary Berdiyev, who portrayed Dovletmammed Azadi, the poet’s father.
Produced under the patronage of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the film commemorates the 300th anniversary of the renowned poet Magtymguly Fragi. This cinematic collaboration underscores the deepening cultural and artistic ties between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The biographical film, which celebrates Magtymguly’s enduring literary contributions, was filmed in the historic locales of Bukhara and Khiva, where the poet spent his formative years. The project benefitted from the collaboration of scholars from both countries, unveiling new historical insights into the poet’s life that were incorporated into the movie’s storyline.
“Magtymguly Pyragy” is presented in both the Turkmen and Uzbek languages, enhancing its cultural resonance and accessibility to audiences across both nations.
