Vobkent Enhances Tourism Potential with Ethno-Tourism Village in Shirin Mahalla
Vobkent, The Gulf Observer: Vobkent district in Bukhara region, known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, encompasses 22 mahalla citizens’ assemblies. The region boasts significant landmarks, including the mausoleums of Khoja Mahmud Anjir Fagnavi and Khazira Chashma Ayub, the Vobkent minaret, the Mavlono Yakub Charkhi mosque, and an ancient hammam. These historical treasures contribute significantly to the development of the region’s tourism potential.
A key highlight in Vobkent is the ethnic-tourism village in Shirin mahalla, celebrated for its authenticity, historical traditions, and local customs. The village continues to pass down recipes for dried fruits and national sweets, while also engaging in the cultivation of melons and the creation of traditional handicrafts.
Tourists visiting the village are attracted to unique features such as the yurts and a pond that breeds a variety of animals, including cows, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and hares. More than 20 guest houses, 10 craft centers, and over 20 retail and catering outlets have been established by local entrepreneurs, offering a diverse range of services.
For years, the daily activities of rural artisans, confectioners, and the intricate art of gold embroidery have fascinated visitors, turning the village into a renowned destination for foreign tourists.
To further develop its ethno-tourism appeal, an event was organized to officially grant Shirin village the status of “Ethno-tourism” destination. During the event, discussions were held on expanding activities at the Shirin Ethno House, including the establishment of horse and camel rides, the restoration of an ancient stone mill, and the promotion of local confectionery products.
As part of the event, participants also took part in planting seedlings to enhance the landscaping of the ethnic village, ensuring its continued growth as a cultural and tourism hub.
