Iran Agrees to Host IAEA Technical Team to Discuss New Cooperation Framework

New York, The Gulf Observer: Iran has agreed to host a technical team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the coming weeks to discuss a new framework for cooperation, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi announced on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to New York, Gharibabadi clarified that the IAEA team would not be visiting Iran’s nuclear sites but rather engaging in discussions aimed at establishing a “new modality” for Iran’s relationship with the UN nuclear watchdog.
“The delegation will come to Iran to discuss the modality, not to go to the (nuclear) sites,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of adjusting mutual commitments under the current circumstances.
Gharibabadi reiterated Iran’s position on uranium enrichment, asserting that Tehran will continue to enrich uranium based on national needs and that Iran must maintain the capability to carry out all related activities independently. “Iran’s right to enrichment must be preserved,” he stressed.
In his remarks, the deputy foreign minister also issued a warning to the three European signatories to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), cautioning them against triggering the snapback mechanism—a move that would reinstate UN sanctions on Iran.
“If the snapback mechanism is activated, Iran may consider withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),” Gharibabadi warned, signaling the potential for serious diplomatic fallout if tensions escalate.
The development comes amid ongoing international efforts to revive dialogue over Iran’s nuclear program and ensure compliance with global non-proliferation commitments.
