Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian departed for China on Sunday to participate in the 25th Heads of State Council meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), underscoring the summit’s importance for strengthening multilateralism and regional cooperation.

Speaking before his departure, President Pezeshkian highlighted that the SCO gathering represents a vital platform to counter unilateralism and totalitarian policies pursued by the United States and certain European countries. He stressed that the summit aligns with Iran’s broader efforts to reinforce multilateral engagement in global affairs.

The Iranian leader stated that the two-day meeting in Tianjin, beginning later on Sunday, would provide opportunities to expand relations with member and observer states. “These talks offer a very important opportunity to bring our views closer together in scientific, cultural, political, and security fields, and to support one another,” he said.

President Pezeshkian further expressed hope that the dialogue within the SCO framework would contribute to advancing peace and security both regionally and globally. He added that he is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other participating leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
