PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening longstanding ties with Iran and commended Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian for his commitment to bilateral friendship and close coordination for regional peace.

In a post on X following his meeting with President Pezeshkian in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the prime minister said it was a pleasure to meet his “dear brother” and Iranian president.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said the two leaders reaffirmed the deep and longstanding bonds between Pakistan and Iran and expressed their shared desire to expand bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

They also exchanged views on the evolving regional situation, he said, adding that he reiterated Pakistan’s deep concern over the prolonged conflict and emphasized the urgent need for restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomatic efforts.

The prime minister said Pakistan remained committed to building on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and would continue to play a sincere and constructive role in efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

He said he deeply valued President Pezeshkian’s commitment to Pakistan-Iran friendship and the close coordination between the two countries at a critical juncture for regional peace.
