Turkmenistan, UN Officials Discuss Intercultural Dialogue and Peace Initiatives at UNGA

New York, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Miguel Ángel Moratinos, UN Deputy Secretary-General and High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. The discussions focused on key areas of international cooperation.
According to official Turkmen media, both sides highlighted the importance of promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue, as well as strengthening mutual understanding and trust at the global level.
The Turkmen delegation reaffirmed its commitment to actively leveraging the platform of the 80th UNGA session to advance initiatives promoting peace, trust, and international cooperation. Among Ashgabat’s proposals were the organization of an international forum under the auspices of UNESCO and the Alliance of Civilizations titled “Central Asia – A Space for Building a Peaceful Life”, as well as a Global Summit on the Culture of Peace, Trust, and Mutual Respect.
Both parties expressed readiness to enhance collaboration in these areas and work together to foster global peace.
Earlier, on September 22, Foreign Minister Meredov also met with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, to further discuss matters relating to international diplomacy and peacebuilding during the 80th General Assembly session.
