President Pezeshkian Calls for Urgent Reform of Economic Regulations Burdening Iranian Citizens

President Pezeshkian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: President Masoud Pezeshkian has underscored the urgent need to review and reform regulations that impose economic pressure on Iranian citizens, asserting that such measures contradict the principles of justice and sound governance. He directed that all policies and laws adversely affecting the welfare of the people must be promptly revised.

Addressing a cabinet meeting on Sunday, President Pezeshkian stated that the well-being of citizens must remain the government’s foremost priority, taking precedence over all other projects and initiatives. He emphasized that the administration must act with greater awareness and accountability, ensuring that every decision serves to improve public welfare and economic stability.

The president expressed concern over the drafting of inflationary laws that disproportionately affect low-income groups, questioning the rationale behind approving regulations that undermine the economic security of vulnerable populations. “Any legislation that causes hardship for the people must be swiftly amended,” he said.

During the meeting, several ministers presented updates on their respective portfolios. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Sattar Hashemi briefed the cabinet on advancements in the Digital Government Ecosystem, highlighting ongoing efforts to modernize administrative processes and align Iran’s digital infrastructure with international standards.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi reported on Iran’s diplomatic strategies aimed at countering sanctions and strengthening trilateral cooperation with China and Russia. He also underlined the supportive stance of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), comprising 121 member states, which he said reinforces Iran’s position against unilateral European measures.

Meanwhile, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Mohamad-Reza Farzin presented an assessment of the economic implications of the snapback mechanism and emphasized the need to activate domestic frameworks to address challenges related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). He stressed that Iran should capitalize on recent legislative approvals to enhance its global financial engagements and mitigate external pressures.

President Pezeshkian concluded the session by reiterating that all governmental actions must align with the principles of justice, transparency, and social responsibility to ensure the economic resilience and dignity of the Iranian people.
