UAE and Japan Hold Third CSPI Subcommittee Meeting in Tokyo to Advance Strategic Cooperation

Tokyo, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates and Japan convened the third round of the Subcommittee on Political Diplomacy and International Cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) in Tokyo. The meeting was co-chaired by Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Iwamoto Keiichi, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides reaffirmed the strength and resilience of UAE–Japan relations, grounded in shared strategic interests, long-standing ties, and frequent high-level exchanges. The delegations emphasized their commitment to the swift conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), recognizing its importance in deepening economic cooperation.

Discussions covered a wide range of areas for enhanced bilateral collaboration, including the economy, space, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. The parties also highlighted the need to advance cooperation within multilateral platforms to support stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in both countries.

The two delegations exchanged perspectives on regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East and Asia. They reiterated their shared commitment to promoting international peace and security, underscoring the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to address conflicts, tackle regional challenges, and strengthen global stability.

Both sides stressed the urgency of protecting civilians in conflict zones and ensuring safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian access to those in need, including in Gaza and Sudan. They agreed to maintain regular consultations to advance their shared objectives and to support the continued growth and prosperity of their nations.

Following the subcommittee session, Reem Ketait met with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Onishi Yohei. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to further deepen cooperation, including through enhanced parliamentary engagement. Shihab Al Faheem, the UAE Ambassador to Japan, along with representatives from relevant UAE institutions, participated in the meetings.
