Pezeshkian Calls for Promoting Books and Knowledge to Counter Extremism and Violence at Tehran Virtual Book Fair

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stressed that societies can overcome war, extremism, and ignorance only by placing books, knowledge, and rational thinking at the center of social and cultural life.
In a message issued on the occasion of the opening of the 7th Tehran Virtual Book Fair, President Pezeshkian described the exhibition as a symbol of cultural vitality and intellectual dynamism, emphasizing the importance of knowledge exchange in promoting peace and understanding.
“The book is the living memory of human history and civilization and the enduring manifestation of human wisdom, experience, and awareness,” the Iranian President said.
Pezeshkian stated that books represent far more than merely printed words and pages, describing them as reflections of human suffering and hope, as well as bridges for dialogue and understanding between nations and generations.
He warned that the growing spread of violence, extremism, and domination poses a serious threat to global peace and security, adding that the world today needs books and reading more than ever to preserve empathy, coexistence, and human values.
The President further noted that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through force, destruction, or bloodshed, but rather through knowledge, justice, morality, and mutual understanding among nations.
“Lasting peace cannot be achieved through power, destructive tools, and the shedding of innocent blood, but through knowledge, justice, morality, and mutual understanding among nations,” Pezeshkian stated, describing books as “the most important language of this human understanding.”
The 7th Tehran Virtual Book Fair officially opened on Saturday with the participation of 2,296 publishers from across Iran and abroad.
The event is being held from May 16 to 23 under the slogan “Let’s Read for Iran” and is accessible online through the official Tehran Virtual Book Fair platform.
