President Ilham Aliyev Receives Chairman of Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Arkadag City Construction
Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Deryageldi Orazov, Chairman of the State Committee for the Construction of the City of Arkadag under the President of Turkmenistan, on May 17.
During the meeting, Chairman Orazov conveyed the warm greetings of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to the Azerbaijani leader. President Aliyev expressed his sincere gratitude for the greetings and requested that his own regards be conveyed back to both the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty and the Turkmen President.
Congratulations on WUF13 and Bilateral Cooperation
In the course of the discussions, Chairman Orazov extended his formal congratulations to President Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan hosting the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
The meeting also highlighted deepening bilateral ties and fraternal initiatives between the two nations:
- Fuzuli Mosque Construction: President Aliyev once again expressed his gratitude for Turkmenistan’s initiative to construct a mosque in the liberated city of Fuzuli, noting that active construction on the project is currently underway.
- Diplomatic and Cultural Solidarity: The joint project underscores the strengthening cultural and diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
Briefing on Large-Scale Regional Reconstruction
President Aliyev briefed the Turkmen delegation on the severe challenges facing the region following decades of occupation. The head of state emphasized that these territories had been completely destroyed and entire cities razed to the ground by Armenia during the occupational period.

Concluding the meeting, Chairman Orazov stated that he would visit the liberated territories during his trip to familiarize himself directly onsite with the ongoing large-scale development and reconstruction projects.
