Baku, The Gulf Observer: U.S. Congressman Abraham Hamadeh has underscored Azerbaijan’s growing strategic significance and called for sustained American engagement in the South Caucasus following his recent visit to the country and meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.

In an article published by U.S. news outlet Newsmax, Hamadeh said that his visit reaffirmed the importance of active U.S. leadership and engagement with trusted partners.

“Having just returned from Azerbaijan, where I met with President Ilham Aliyev, I was reminded once again that America’s influence is strongest when we actively engage with trusted partners,”

Hamadeh wrote.

He added that the visit reinforced the view that U.S. allies continue to look to Washington for leadership.

The congressman described Azerbaijan as occupying one of the world’s most strategically important locations despite often receiving limited attention in Washington.

“Situated between Europe and Asia and bordering both Russia and Iran, Azerbaijan has become an indispensable energy producer, transportation hub, and security partner,”

he said.

Hamadeh noted that Azerbaijan is playing an increasingly important role in supporting Europe’s energy diversification efforts, expanding regional trade corridors, and promoting stability in a volatile geopolitical environment.

Referring to relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the U.S. lawmaker said that significant progress had been made toward a durable peace under the leadership of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

He added that a historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan could create new opportunities for economic growth, regional stability, and long-term prosperity.

“The historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan establishes a political framework that will require continued international engagement and support to succeed. The United States cannot afford to disengage at such a pivotal moment,”

Hamadeh wrote.

His remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at advancing normalization and peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan following years of conflict in the South Caucasus.
