Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia Pledge to Deepen Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation
Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Tuesday met with the Speaker of the Majlis Shura (Parliament) of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
Welcoming the Saudi parliamentary delegation, President Rahmon described Saudi Arabia as one of Tajikistan’s key partners in the Arab and Islamic world and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with the Kingdom.
The two sides expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral relations, particularly in parliamentary diplomacy, and reiterated their mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed prospects for strengthening political dialogue and expanding collaboration in the economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
Particular emphasis was placed on promoting joint investment projects in key sectors of Tajikistan’s economy. Both sides underlined the importance of increasing the participation of Saudi financial institutions in projects of national and regional significance to further advance mutually beneficial cooperation.
The discussions also identified the light and food industries, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and transport infrastructure development as priority areas for future partnership.
In addition, the two sides stressed the need to expand cooperation in science and education, healthcare, culture, sports, and tourism, recognizing their role in strengthening people-to-people ties.
The meeting also included a comprehensive exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
On the occasion, the Tajik side expressed its appreciation to Saudi Arabia for supporting Tajikistan’s initiative to designate 2027–2036 as the International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations, highlighting the importance of collective international efforts to promote peace and sustainable development.
