CCCC

Colombo, The Gulf Observer: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Tuesday met a senior delegation from China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), led by Zhang Bingnan, at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss ongoing projects and potential new investments in Sri Lanka, with particular focus on the Colombo Port City.

The meeting reviewed projects currently being implemented as well as proposed future initiatives centred on the Colombo Port City, with both sides exploring opportunities to further strengthen investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Chinese company.

Senior representatives of CCCC said President Dissanayake’s forward-looking policies and development programmes had emerged as an important factor in strengthening investor confidence in Sri Lanka.

They said the confidence generated by the Government’s current economic programme had encouraged CCCC to explore additional major investment opportunities in the country.

The company also expressed interest in expanding its investments into renewable energy, trade and logistics, and digital services. CCCC representatives noted that Sri Lanka possesses significant potential to develop into a regional hub in these sectors and attract increased foreign investment.

The Chinese company further assured the President that 90 percent of the workforce engaged in its investment projects would be recruited locally. The commitment is expected to create substantial employment opportunities for Sri Lankan citizens while contributing to the development of local skills and expertise.

The discussions underscore the growing scope of Chinese investment in Sri Lanka and the Government’s efforts to attract foreign capital to strategic sectors of the economy.

The Colombo Port City remains a key component of Sri Lanka’s ambitions to strengthen its position as a regional centre for investment, trade, logistics and services. Expanded investment in renewable energy and digital services could further support the country’s economic diversification and long-term development objectives.
