Aliyev, Tokayev Discuss Strategic Partnership and Middle Corridor Prospects

Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, Aliyev congratulated Tokayev on the successful conduct of Kazakhstan’s first elections to the country’s new parliament, the Kurultai. He said the elections represented another demonstration of the Kazakh people’s support for the large-scale reforms being implemented under Tokayev’s leadership.

The Kazakh president expressed appreciation for Aliyev’s congratulatory letter and thanked Azerbaijan for the active participation of its observers in the parliamentary elections.

The two leaders praised the successful development of strategic partnership and allied relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, emphasizing the importance of high-level reciprocal visits and regular contacts in further strengthening bilateral ties.

The presidents also discussed transport and logistics cooperation, with particular attention to the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, a key trans-Caspian route connecting Asia with Europe. They exchanged views on prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries in this sector.

Aliyev and Tokayev also discussed preparations for the upcoming summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which is scheduled to be held in Baku.

The meeting further covered prospects for future high-level contacts and other issues of mutual interest.
