Trump Congratulates Turkmen President on 35th Independence Anniversary

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.

In his message, President Trump conveyed his best wishes to President Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the national anniversary and expressed confidence in the further development of diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and Turkmenistan.

The message also referred to the meeting between Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Donald Trump at the White House in November 2025. During that meeting, the two leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas. Turkmenistan’s official account of the meeting said both sides confirmed their readiness to deepen intergovernmental cooperation.

President Trump concluded his message by extending his best wishes to President Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan on the anniversary of the country’s independence.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also conveyed congratulations to the people of Turkmenistan on behalf of the United States on the 35th anniversary of independence.

According to the statement cited in the report, the United States is seeking to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan in areas including trade, investment, energy security and transportation.

Rubio also highlighted cooperation between the United States and Central Asian countries through the C5+1 framework, including collaboration in artificial intelligence and digitalization aimed at advancing regional cooperation in economic and security-related areas.

The 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence is being marked throughout September with official ceremonies, cultural events, exhibitions and other programmes across the country.
