Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Baghdad, Iraq, on October 17–18, 2026, with the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan.

The session brought together representatives of OIC member states to discuss pressing regional and international issues, strengthening peace and security, and expanding political, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation among member countries.

A key outcome of the meeting was the adoption of a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan titled “The Role of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development within the OIC Space and Globally.”

The resolution received the support of OIC member states, reaffirming international recognition of the role of neutrality as an effective instrument for promoting peace, strengthening international security and advancing sustainable development.

During the session, the Turkmen delegation delivered a statement outlining the country’s priority areas for cooperation with the OIC. Particular emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at fostering international trust, promoting dialogue and preventive diplomacy, and upholding the supremacy of international law.

The delegation also highlighted the significance of declaring 2028 the “Year of International Law,” an initiative proposed by Turkmenistan and supported by the United Nations General Assembly.

Cooperation in education, science and culture was another important topic discussed during the session. In this regard, the delegation noted that Turkmenistan was granted observer status in the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in 2026, opening new opportunities for cooperation in these fields.

The Turkmen side also expressed its interest in further strengthening partnerships with OIC member states in trade, economic development, energy, transport, communications and humanitarian affairs.

Turkmenistan’s participation in the 52nd session and the adoption of its proposed resolution underscore the country’s continued commitment to a foreign policy focused on neutrality, peace, mutual trust and the promotion of multilateral cooperation.

The outcome also reflects Turkmenistan’s efforts to advance international dialogue and strengthen collective approaches to addressing global and regional challenges through diplomatic engagement and cooperation.
