JICA to fund introduction of Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance
Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Egyptian Ministry of Finance and JICA signed Tuesday the executive agreement for the latter to fund the introduction of the Universal Health Insurance in Egypt with 44 billion yen as a soft loan.
Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated in June that the number of citizens enrolled in the Universal Health Insurance System had hit 4.5 million since its launching in 2019.
The system is being introduced over phases nationwide so as it had been made available in Port Said, Luxor, Ismailiyah, South Sinai, Aswan, and Suez.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the number of services offered through the system had become 2,941 after adding 90 new ones, including some that are pertaining to psychiatry, dentistry, and dieting among others.
The vast majority of service providers through the system are public hospitals and healthcare establishments. Yet, there are 38 private entities that joined the system in Port Said and Luxor.
