Italy seeks to strengthen education cooperation with Indonesia

Makassar, The Gulf Observer: Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, Benedetto Latteri, on Tuesday visited Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in South Sulawesi Province as part of an effort to strengthen cooperation between the Mediterranean country and Indonesia, particularly in the field of education.

During his visit, Ambassador Latteri delivered a guest lecture on “Italy: Between Its Traditions and Innovations,” which was guided by Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of the university, Dr. Andi Weri Sompa.

Latteri said that his visit was also aimed at providing a better understanding of the cultures and diversity of the two countries.

The ambassador also highlighted the crucial role of higher educational institutions in building bridges to address cultural gaps as well as bolstering brotherhood between the two countries. He underlined the high quality of a number of study programs in his country.

He then expressed his appreciation for the cooperation forged between the university, particularly FKIK, and Italian telemedicine company De Martinis Telemedicine Panel (DeMaTePa).

Latteri expressed the hope that his visit would present a stimulus for strengthening the relationship between Italy and Indonesia in the field of education, in particular.

The visit, he said, is expected to help the two countries strengthen educational cooperation, which would, in turn, open more opportunities for Indonesian students to continue their studies at Italian higher education institutions.

The ambassador’s lecture was enthusiastically welcomed by the university’s deputy rectors, postgraduate director, heads of agencies/institutions, deans, and deputy deans. The lecture was followed by a question and answer session.

The university’s Deputy Rector I, Dr. Abd Rakhim Nanda, warmly welcomed the ambassador and expressed gratitude for his visit.

Dr. Nanda expressed the hope that the visit would serve as a good start for efforts to strengthen educational cooperation between Makassar Muhammadiyah University and Italian education institutions.
