Turkmenistan and FAO discuss cooperation priorities

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmen Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, discussed with the FAO subregional coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutu the issues of expanding technical cooperation, organizing joint events and opening a representative office of the organization in Ashgabat, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Meredov noted Turkmenistan’s intention to further strengthen cooperation with the FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia. Gutsu, in turn, noted the efforts of Ashgabat to ensure food security.

The prospects for holding regional conferences in Turkmenistan jointly with FAO on climate change and food security were discussed at the meeting. These activities should be an important step in adapting agriculture to negative climate change.

The progress of current FAO regional and technical projects in Turkmenistan was also reviewed. The interlocutors paid particular attention to the possibility of signing a package of new cooperation agreements in such areas as the development of the aquaculture feed value chain, veterinary medicine, digitalization of pasture management and increasing the resilience of water resources to climate change.
