Kazakhstan takes over CSTO chairmanship

Astana, The Gulf Observer: As of January 1, 2024, Kazakhstan has officially undertaken the prestigious role of chairmanship within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), according to media reports.

During the expanded meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Minsk, Belarus, held in November, Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented a comprehensive proposal outlining key priority areas for the Organization’s focus throughout Kazakhstan’s chairmanship. Notably, these proposed initiatives aim to strategically direct and prioritize the CSTO’s activities, underscoring a clear vision for collaborative efforts among member states. Tokayev’s propositions serve as a guiding framework, emphasizing critical areas warranting concentrated attention and concerted action within the CSTO during Kazakhstan’s tenure at the helm of this influential regional security alliance.
