Magelang, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized the need for the Military Academy (Akmil) to embrace technological advancements and adjust to evolving global dynamics. Speaking at the inauguration of Graha Utama Akmil in Magelang, Central Java, President Jokowi called for an adaptation to disruptions and changes in technology.

In his address, President Jokowi highlighted the importance of equipping prospective Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) soldiers with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) materials. Integrating STEM education is crucial for developing expertise in various advanced technology tools, including ships and unmanned aircraft armed with facial recognition technology for precise target acquisition.

“I am happy to be here today. This is the center of the best TNI soldiers—a place to forge mental strength, intellectual prowess, and toughness,” President Jokowi noted.

He stressed the significance of the newly inaugurated Graha Utama Akmil, covering an area of 8,068 square meters, in providing modern educational facilities and infrastructure. The building serves as a hub for academic activities and military events.

“With the addition of these educational facilities, I hope that the Magelang Military Academy will produce tougher and more professional soldiers dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty,” President Jokowi emphasized.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, also present at the inauguration, stated that the construction of Graha Utama Akmil is part of broader efforts to enhance educational facilities in military institutions. The building is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the character, mental outlook, and intellectual abilities of future TNI leaders.

Graha Utama Akmil is designed to serve as a venue for honorary military events, ceremonies welcoming foreign guests, as well as inaugurations and commemorations of historical events.

“We hope this building will improve the quality of education for cadets, shaping them as the nation’s future successors and enhancing the competitiveness of our young soldiers at the international level,” Minister Prabowo Subianto stated.
