President Tokayev Chairs Republican Flood Control Headquarters Meeting
Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, convened a crucial meeting of the Republican flood control headquarters, addressing the ongoing flood risks and relief efforts across several regions of the country, as reported by Akorda.
During the meeting, President Tokayev emphasized that the risk of a second wave of flooding persists in five regions: Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Akmola, and North Kazakhstan. On a positive note, the flood situation has stabilized in six other regions: Aktobe, Kostanay, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Abai, and Ulytau.
President Tokayev highlighted key measures to mitigate the impact of flooding, including the timely evacuation of individuals from high-risk areas and providing essential assistance to affected citizens. He directed the mobilization of specialized vehicles and resources from state material reserves to support relief efforts.
To address the economic impact, President Tokayev instructed the development of an effective mechanism to compensate losses, utilizing funds from the state budget, the Kazakhstan Khalkyna Fund, and major businesses. He emphasized the importance of food security in flood-affected areas, urging authorities to prevent price hikes and maintain order.
President Tokayev also emphasized the need to monitor the epidemiological situation in flood-hit areas and prepare for upcoming spring field work. He instructed the government and regional authorities to promptly accommodate affected individuals, provide necessary assistance, and establish recovery centers for lost documents and legal support.
During the meeting, President Tokayev warned against price increases for air and railway tickets and stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and control over relief efforts, including restoration of housing and infrastructure.
Reports were presented by key officials including Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Emergency Situations Minister Chingis Arinov, Industry and Construction Minister Kanat Sharlapaev, Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova, Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov, and regional governors.
President Tokayev concluded the meeting by emphasizing the need for a long-term flood management strategy and the adoption of appropriate program documents to address future challenges effectively. The coordination efforts underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, and recovery of citizens affected by flooding in Kazakhstan.
