China Pledges Support for Sri Lanka’s Economic Development During State Visit

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s economic development and fostering high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative during talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Beijing on Wednesday.

President Xi highlighted the potential for joint advancements in modern agriculture, the digital economy, and the marine economy, emphasizing that China’s efforts in deepening reforms and advancing modernization will create new opportunities for Sri Lanka’s growth.

“China and Sri Lanka enjoy a traditional friendship and have maintained healthy and stable relations for 68 years,” Xi stated, noting that the bilateral partnership has set a model of friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The two leaders celebrated the achievements of their strategic cooperative partnership, which has brought tangible benefits to both nations. High-quality Belt and Road cooperation has been a cornerstone of this partnership, contributing to infrastructure development and economic growth in Sri Lanka.

President Xi underscored the importance of viewing bilateral relations from a strategic perspective and proposed jointly building a China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future. The partnership, he said, reflects mutual assistance and enduring friendship, aimed at promoting stability, development, and prosperity in both nations.

The talks underscored China’s continued support for Sri Lanka in achieving sustainable development and highlighted the shared commitment to deepening ties across various sectors to benefit their peoples.
