China Targets 10,000 5G-Powered Factories and 20 Pilot Cities by 2027

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish 10,000 factories powered by 5G technology and at least 20 pilot cities for the integrated application of “5G + Industrial Internet” by 2027. The initiative seeks to accelerate the convergence of information and communication technologies to drive industrial modernization.

According to the plan, the focus will be on building a new industrial network system centered on 5G technology, integrating it into the real economy across key sectors. The strategy outlines goals in five critical areas: network infrastructure, technological products, integrated applications, industrial ecosystems, and public services.

Tang Libo, a representative from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, emphasized the importance of adopting advanced technologies to meet the evolving demands of the industrial sector. “Technologies such as 5G-A, artificial intelligence, new industrial control systems, and industrial computing power will be holistically considered to promote the development of a new industrial network system,” Tang said in an interview with China Media Group.

The initiative aims to strengthen the synergy between the industrial internet and critical industrial chains, fostering a high-quality development ecosystem. This vision is reflected in the country’s rapid progress in 5G + industrial internet projects. To date, China has launched over 17,000 such projects across 41 major industrial sectors.

Notably, more than 4,000 5G-powered factories have already been established, with 700 recognized on MIIT’s list of high-level 5G factories. These facilities are making substantial contributions in industries such as manufacturing, mining, power generation, and port operations.

The MIIT’s plan underscores China’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance industrial efficiency and sustainability, paving the way for a transformative industrial landscape by 2027.
