Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, from June 10 to 11, announced Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will engage in discussions with foreign ministers of other BRICS countries and invited foreign ministers from guest countries. The agenda will focus on issues related to BRICS cooperation and the current international and regional situation, as well as preparations for the 16th meeting of BRICS leaders, according to the Chinese spokesperson.
In a significant development, BRICS expanded its membership to include six new countries during the 15th BRICS Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, last August. This meeting marks the first gathering of foreign ministers since the expansion.
Mao Ning emphasized that China is committed to working with its BRICS partners to consolidate the strategic partnership, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, promote the common development of the Global South, and lay a strong foundation for enhanced BRICS cooperation.
