EAEU, Pakistan Set to Begin Negotiations on Free Trade Zone: Russian Deputy PM

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Negotiations between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Pakistan on establishing a free trade zone are expected to begin in the near future, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on August 6, 2026, Overchuk said expert groups from the EAEU and Pakistan had already held joint consultations to prepare the ground for substantive discussions.

“Our expert groups have held joint consultations with Pakistan, and we expect substantive negotiations on a free trade zone to begin in the near future,” he said.

The planned negotiations are aimed at advancing economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and the EAEU, which comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The development is expected to create further opportunities for expanding bilateral and regional trade, improving market access and strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and the EAEU member states.
