Indonesia and Australia Reaffirm Commitment to Counterterrorism Cooperation at 10th Bilateral Meeting in Jakarta

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia and Australia have once again affirmed their mutual commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism during the 10th Bilateral Consultation Meeting on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism, held in Jakarta on July 24.
Commissioner General Eddy Hartono, Head of Indonesia’s National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), stated in a press release issued on Saturday that the meeting was a direct follow-up to the Plan of Action for the Indonesia–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2025–2029).
“This bilateral meeting is part of the implementation of the outcomes from the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Jakarta on May 15, 2025,” Hartono said.
The Plan of Action underscores the importance of enhancing cooperation in the fields of counterterrorism, information sharing between law enforcement agencies, civil society engagement, and collaboration in regional and multilateral platforms.
Hartono commended the ongoing joint efforts under the Australia–Indonesia Partnership for Justice (AIPJ) and expressed support for continuing into the third phase, which will focus more on terrorism and transnational crime.
Australian Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism Gemma Huggins reaffirmed Australia’s strong commitment to working with Indonesia, emphasizing that both countries continue to build upon their cooperation through the Australia–Indonesia Counter-Terrorism Partnership, a vital pillar in their strategic collaboration.
“The consultation provides an effective platform to explore enhanced efforts against terrorism,” she said, noting that key figures from Australia’s counterterrorism community participated in the session to advance the dialogue.
“This whole-of-government delegation underscores how seriously we take our partnership with Indonesia in countering threats to regional peace and security,” Huggins added.
The bilateral meeting reflects both nations’ shared determination to strengthen strategic cooperation and ensure a safer, more secure Indo-Pacific region.
