Indonesia's Diplomatic Fortitude: Sustained Commitment to Safeguarding the Rights of the Palestinian People

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to championing the rights of the Palestinian people during the 2024 Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (PPTM) at Gedung Merdeka, Bandung. Marsudi emphasized the devastating impact of the Israeli aggression in 2023, resulting in over 21 thousand Palestinian casualties and the destruction of vital public facilities, including the Indonesian Hospital in North Gaza.

Criticizing the double standards exhibited by Global North countries, she questioned their silence on human rights violations in Gaza despite often lecturing others on the subject. Marsudi expressed disappointment in the UN Security Council’s inability to halt the genocide in Gaza, announcing Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to support Palestine through the International Court of Justice.

She disclosed her participation on February 19, representing Indonesia to strengthen Palestine’s legal position and urged the United Nations not to overlook the Palestinian people’s struggle. Marsudi concluded by emphasizing Indonesia’s choice to stand on the right side of history, defending humanity and justice for the Palestinian people, underlining the theme of the event, “Advancing Free and Active Foreign Policy: A Ten-Year Journey.”

Additionally, she highlighted diplomatic achievements over the past nine years and outlined diplomatic priorities for the current year.
