Iran Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Technology

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s steadfast commitment to peaceful nuclear technology on Wednesday, stressing that the Islamic Republic is not seeking war, nor will it yield to external pressure or compromise on its nuclear achievements.

Speaking at a ceremony marking National Nuclear Technology Day, President Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s resilience in the face of growing international tensions. “The more they threaten, the firmer we stand,” he declared, adding, “We are not seeking war, but we will stand strong against any aggression with the knowledge and power that our loved ones have created.”

The president’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly following recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that Iran could face military action if it refuses to enter negotiations with the United States. On Monday, President Trump reiterated that “Iran is going to be in great danger” should talks fail to produce a resolution.

In reference to earlier exchanges, President Pezeshkian acknowledged that Trump had sent a letter on March 7 inviting negotiations. Tehran, while rejecting direct talks due to what it views as contradictory and hostile policies from Washington, has signaled its openness to indirect discussions regarding its civilian nuclear program.

Rejecting Western accusations that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, Pezeshkian firmly stated, “Who can set policy higher than the Leader of the Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei], who has clearly declared we are not after atomic bombs?” He emphasized that the Supreme Leader’s position on negotiations is grounded in the persistent hostility shown by U.S. officials, and thus applies specifically to direct talks.

Earlier in the day, the president presided over the unveiling of new nuclear achievements by Iranian scientists. According to Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), these accomplishments span several strategic fields, including the nuclear fuel cycle, healthcare, and industrial applications, with significant implications for societal well-being and public health.

“These are strategic and technological achievements that play an important role in the health of society and people’s lives,” Eslami stated during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei also marked the occasion, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that “safeguarding the achievements of the Iranian nation in the field of nuclear knowledge and its diverse peaceful applications is a national responsibility.”

He added, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as in the past, will use all its capabilities to protect the rights of the Iranian nation in the nuclear field.”

The observance of National Nuclear Technology Day highlighted not only Iran’s scientific progress but also its determination to assert its sovereignty and defend its national interests amid a complex geopolitical landscape.
