Iran Thanks Oman for Hosting Indirect Talks with U.S. in Muscat

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran has expressed its appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for its pivotal role in facilitating indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei praising Muscat’s efforts as “an excellent job.”

In a statement posted Saturday evening on the social media platform X, Baqaei announced that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had concluded his visit to Oman, where he led the Iranian delegation in a new round of indirect talks with top U.S. negotiator Steve Witkoff. The discussions reportedly centered on sanctions relief and nuclear-related issues.

“FM @Araghchi is concluding his visit to Oman and heading back to Tehran after a round of indirect talks with the U.S. representative over sanctions-lifting/nuclear issue,” Baqaei stated. He went on to thank Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi for mediating the sensitive dialogue.

“We thank Oman and FM @badralbusaidi for their excellent job in hosting and mediating these talks. Oman will continue to perform this important endeavour as Iran and U.S.’ representatives agreed to carry on their indirect talks next week,” Baqaei added.

Following the discussions, Araqchi described the talks as “constructive and promising” in his own post on X, indicating cautious optimism regarding the continuation of the diplomatic process.

The renewed channel of communication between Iran and the United States comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and potentially revive elements of the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018. Oman has historically played a discreet but effective role as a regional mediator in facilitating dialogue between the two nations.
