Iranian President Offers Condolences over Passing of Cinema Icon Bahram Beyzai

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed deep condolences over the passing of renowned filmmaker, playwright, and writer Bahram Beyzai, describing his death as a significant loss for Iran’s artistic and cultural community.

In a message issued on Sunday evening, President Pezeshkian extended his sympathies to Beyzai’s family and admirers, and prayed for eternal peace for the late artist. He said Beyzai’s contribution to Iranian culture would endure well beyond the theater stage and cinema screen.

Praising Beyzai’s distinctive artistic vision, the president highlighted his ability to blend art with thought, history with myth, and drama with Iranian identity, noting that such qualities secured him a lasting place in the collective memory of the Iranian nation.

President Pezeshkian also referred to Beyzai’s cinematic legacy, describing The Fateful Day as a deeply moving screenplay and a valuable component of Iran’s intellectual and artistic heritage.

Bahram Beyzai, a towering figure in Iranian cinema, theatre, and literature, passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 87. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Iranian theatre and a highly respected filmmaker known for his unique style and profound storytelling.

Beyzai made his directorial debut with Downpour in 1972, while his international reputation was firmly established with The Little Stranger in 1986. His other notable works include Maybe Some Other Time, Killing Mad Dogs, When Fish Fall in Love, The Travelers, and The Death of Yazdgerd, all of which left a lasting impact on Iranian and world cinema.
