Iranian President Urges Accelerated Solar Power Projects

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: President Masoud Pezeshkian has said his administration is prioritizing solar power generation projects and has called on officials across all provinces to accelerate their implementation in order to prevent electricity shortages across the country.
The president made the remarks on Sunday during a ceremony in Tehran, held with virtual participation of state and provincial officials, to mark the simultaneous inauguration of 15,997 development projects implemented by municipalities and village councils nationwide.
According to a statement published on the presidential website, the projects were inaugurated by order of President Pezeshkian on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
President Pezeshkian said his administration has undertaken numerous measures to boost solar power generation as part of broader efforts to address energy imbalances in the country.
“In this sector, many measures have been taken, and we hope to see faster implementation of plans and projects as well,” he said.
He urged governors, mayors, and village heads across Iran to actively support the rollout of solar power initiatives to help avert electricity cuts during the coming summer months.
“I call on all governors, mayors, and village heads across the country to take the lead in expanding the use of solar and clean energy so that, with God’s help, we will not face power outages in the coming summer,” the president said, while commending local officials for their efforts in advancing development projects.
Iran, which benefits from abundant sunshine due to its geographical location, has intensified efforts under the Pezeshkian administration to expand solar energy production, with the dual aim of environmental protection and meeting rising domestic energy demand.
Solar power development has remained a key priority of the administration since it took office in late July 2024, amid recurring electricity outages during peak summer periods when energy consumption reaches record levels due to extreme heat.
At the same time, the government has emphasized the need to improve energy consumption patterns, particularly among households, noting that current usage levels remain significantly higher than global standards.
