Malaysia Launches National Children’s Policy to Prioritize Protection, Development, and Participation

National Children’s Policy

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry unveiled the new National Children’s Policy on Sunday, emphasizing the protection, development, and active participation of children in shaping their futures.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri introduced the policy during the National Children’s Day 2024 celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), attended by former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and other dignitaries.

Built on three key pillars, the policy aims to:

  1. Protect children from violence, exploitation, and neglect.
  2. Promote holistic development, encompassing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual growth.
  3. Foster meaningful participation, ensuring children’s voices are heard in decision-making processes affecting their lives.

“This policy is a significant step in prioritizing the welfare of our children by focusing on their protection, development, and active involvement. Our ultimate goal is to nurture children who can reach their full potential as healthy, knowledgeable, innovative, and value-driven individuals,” said Nancy.

The policy will be implemented through four objectives: improving children’s survival, strengthening their protection, ensuring their development, and increasing their participation in various spheres. It aims to raise a resilient, competitive, and morally upright generation that contributes to Malaysia’s prosperity.

Nancy emphasized that the framework, developed under the Social Welfare Department, reflects the government’s commitment to addressing children’s needs with care and ensuring their voices are integral to policymaking.

This initiative underscores Malaysia’s dedication to building a future where every child is safeguarded, empowered, and provided the opportunity to thrive.
