Morocco Sets First-Ever Medium Voltage Distribution Tariff to Streamline Electricity Sector

Electricity

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco’s National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has established the Medium Voltage Distribution Network Usage Tariff (TURD) for the first time, marking a significant step in the country’s electricity sector regulation.

The tariff, set at 5.92 centimes per kilowatt-hour, will be effective from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2027. ANRE has announced that it will review and adjust the rate in 2026 to reflect inflation and economic conditions.

By implementing a unified national tariff, ANRE aims to simplify the pricing structure, particularly as Morocco advances with the establishment of Regional Multi-Service Companies (SRMs). The two-year tariff period also aligns with the scheduled reassessment of the national electricity transmission network tariff, set for early 2027.

This initiative provides greater transparency for investors while reinforcing Morocco’s transition to clean energy. With a carbon tax set to take effect in early 2026, the new tariff framework is designed to support national efforts toward a low-carbon economy and sustainable energy development.
