Oman Participates in UN High-Level Meeting on Combating Human Trafficking

New York, The Gulf Observer: Oman took part in a high-level meeting at the United Nations in New York to review the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
Oman’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Omar Alkathiri, said, “The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman is honoured to take part in this meeting dedicated to advancing the implementation of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. This crime violates human dignity, undermines the rule of law, and poses an immediate threat to peace and sustainable development.”
Ambassador Alkathiri welcomed the launch of the updated UN Global Plan, highlighting its comprehensive approach that addresses emerging challenges such as the misuse of technology and artificial intelligence, heightened risks in mixed-migration contexts, and the increased vulnerability of women, girls, and children to trafficking.
Under Oman Vision 2040, the country places people at the centre of national development. Oman continues to implement systematic measures to combat human trafficking, including updating national legislation in line with global standards. The recently issued Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law under Royal Decree No. 78/2025 broadens the definition of trafficking to include forced labour and exploitation, strengthens mechanisms for victim protection—including medical, psychological, and legal care—and facilitates international judicial cooperation.
Ambassador Alkathiri also highlighted the activities of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCHT), which recently launched the “Aman” awareness campaign. The initiative promotes understanding of trafficking, reporting mechanisms, and victim support through social media, workshops, exhibitions, and publications in seven widely used languages.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Alkathiri reaffirmed Oman’s firm commitment to international cooperation, supporting the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and advancing joint efforts to achieve a world free from trafficking in persons.
