Oman to celebrate Environment Day tomorrow

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, will celebrate the Omani Environment Day tomorrow. The event falls on the 8th of January annually.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, said: “The Sultanate of Oman has made many environmental achievements as a result of the programs and initiatives that the Authority has worked on, relying on continuous planning and development with methodologies that enhance the quality of environmental work and ensure its sustainability.”

Furthermore, His Excellency stated that the authority has worked on various projects embodied in environmental protection, nature conservation and air quality, in the field of reuse and recycling, as well as using clean green energy. This is in addition to carbon management projects and reducing the risks of climate change and global warming, leading to zero carbon neutrality by 2050, according to the national plan that was launched and adopted by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

His Excellency also said that governance, legislation and digital transformation, in addition to developing research and innovation and promoting environmental culture, directly contributed to strengthening Oman’s position globally, and was able to raise the environmental performance index, in which ambition reaches higher levels than the current situation.

Additionally, His Excellency pointed out that Oman finally recorded reassuring numbers that reflect the efforts made at the national level, as it ranked first in the Gulf and fourth in the Arab world in achieving the sustainable development goals, and that it was not rated low in any of the sustainable development goals, but rather maintained its performance in its goals. Oman is also on track in regards to other goals.
