Overwhelming majority of EU opposes total siege of Gaza: Borrell
Brussels, The Gulf Observer: EU foreign ministers have urged Israel not to cut “water, food, or electricity” to Gaza and urged humanitarian corridors for those trying to flee the territory, the bloc’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.
After emergency talks between the 27 ministers, Borrell also said that the “overwhelming majority” of EU states oppose suspending aid to the Palestinian Authority.
The Palestinian Hamas group launched Operation Al Aqsa Flood against Israel early Saturday, firing a barrage of rockets and infiltrating Israel by land, air and sea. It said the surprise attack was in response to the storming of Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and increased settler violence against Palestinians.
The Israeli military launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas in besieged Gaza.
According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, at least 830 Palestinians have so far been killed and 4,250 others injured in Israeli bombardment on the blockaded enclave.
At least 1,000 Israelis have been killed and over 2,600 others wounded in the fighting, according to the Israeli media.
