President Pezeshkian to Attend Neutrality Forum in Ashgabat

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially confirmed his participation in the upcoming International Forum in Ashgabat, scheduled for December 12, 2025. The forum will commemorate the International Year of Peace and Trust as well as the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency following a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Friday.

The announcement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, who stated that President Pezeshkian accepted the formal invitation extended by the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

During his recent visit to Tehran, Foreign Minister Meredov held high-level talks with President Pezeshkian. The two sides underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic sectors. Both parties also expressed their mutual readiness to implement previously agreed projects and initiatives aimed at deepening Turkmen-Iranian relations.

The discussions highlighted infrastructure and transport connectivity as top priorities, including the construction of a 242-kilometer highway linking Gumdag to Etrek and the Iranian border. The project is expected to enhance cargo and transit operations and contribute to broader economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed the importance of close relations with Iran and emphasized the strategic role of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in implementing bilateral agreements. He tasked Foreign Minister Meredov with continuing efforts to strengthen trade and economic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Cabinet meeting in Ashgabat also addressed several key national issues, reinforcing Turkmenistan’s commitment to regional diplomacy and economic development ahead of the major international gathering in December.
