President Prabowo Affirms Indonesia’s Commitment to Eradicating Hunger and Poverty at G20 Summit
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to tackling hunger and poverty during the first session of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday, November 18. Addressing global leaders, President Prabowo emphasized that eradicating these issues remains a national priority for his administration.
“With the fourth-largest population in the world, hunger and poverty are real and common challenges,” President Prabowo stated, according to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday.
Highlighting Indonesia’s strategies, the president underscored the government’s significant investments in education as a cornerstone for poverty alleviation. “I believe education will bring us out of poverty. The free meal program for students is part of our strategy to ensure that the younger generation benefits fully from education,” he said.
President Prabowo also outlined a comprehensive plan to achieve food and energy security, expressing optimism about Indonesia’s progress. “We will overcome hunger within the next three years, achieve energy self-sufficiency in four years, and in five years, contribute meaningfully to the Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger,” he asserted.
The president further connected global economic challenges to ongoing geopolitical tensions, urging G20 nations to prioritize peaceful resolutions. “We urge an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and Gaza. Only with peace and stability can we overcome poverty and hunger,” he noted.
President Prabowo’s remarks at the summit reflect Indonesia’s proactive approach to addressing pressing global issues while contributing to multilateral efforts to combat poverty and hunger.
