Reflecting on the year 2024, President Xi highlighted significant achievements and outlined the path forward for China’s continued development.

“Time flies fast, and the new year will be with us shortly,” President Xi began, expressing his warm greetings from Beijing. He emphasized the extraordinary nature of 2024, a year marked by China’s economic rebound, significant advancements in technology, and improvements in the lives of its people.

In his address, President Xi underscored China’s proactive response to both domestic and international challenges. “We have adopted a full range of policies to make solid gains in pursuing high-quality development,” he said. He highlighted China’s GDP, which is expected to surpass the 130 trillion yuan mark in 2024, as a testament to the nation’s economic recovery. Additionally, China achieved over 700 million tons of grain output, ensuring the country’s food security.

The President also pointed to advancements in science and technology, including the production of more than 10 million new energy vehicles and breakthroughs in integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and quantum communications. Notably, the Chang’e-6 lunar probe made history by collecting samples from the far side of the moon. “These milestones epitomize the lofty spirit and dreams of the Chinese people to explore stars and oceans,” Xi said.

President Xi took pride in witnessing the progress made across the country. He reflected on his visits to various regions, where he saw firsthand how people’s lives were improving, including in areas like employment, healthcare, and education. He highlighted the government’s initiatives such as increased pensions, reduced mortgage rates, and expanded access to medical services.

Xi also celebrated the achievements of Chinese athletes, who delivered their best performances at the Paris Olympics, and the country’s resilience in the face of natural disasters. “Our people were of one mind and reached out to each other,” he noted, acknowledging the collective effort to overcome challenges.

On the international stage, Xi emphasized China’s role as a responsible global actor. “China is actively promoting global governance reform and deepening solidarity among the Global South,” he said, referencing successful initiatives such as the Belt and Road cooperation and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to global peace and stability.

Looking ahead, Xi outlined China’s vision for the coming year, noting that the country would complete the 14th Five-Year Plan and continue its focus on high-quality development, self-reliance in technology, and social progress. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in China’s ability to overcome them through hard work and determination.

“The most important job before us is to ensure a happy life for our people,” he emphasized, urging continued efforts to improve social welfare and governance, and create a harmonious and inclusive society.

As part of his address, Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to the “One Country, Two Systems” policy in Hong Kong and Macao, and reiterated the country’s determination to reunify Taiwan with the mainland. “No one can ever sever the bond of kinship between us,” he stated, highlighting the importance of national unity.

In closing, President Xi expressed optimism for the future, calling for global cooperation and mutual learning among cultures. “We must jointly create a better future for the world,” he said. “On the new journey of Chinese modernization, everyone is a key actor, every effort counts, and every ray of light shines.”

Xi concluded with a hopeful message: “May our great country enjoy harmony and prosperity! May all your dreams come true! May you all have a new year of happiness and peace!”
